My only complaint is that the Trombones sound too "tinny" if that makes any sense. Like above, I prefer the "close" mics.īrass - awesome! Notably the French Horns sound amazing. The legatos an butter legatos and effects are awesome, but i have to search for a "staccato" that im happy with. You can add more reverb through "play" but I often find myself wanting less reverb than is actually there, whch means using "close" mic and keeping "stage" mic and just turning down the volume on "stage". I really like all if the "close mic" positions on the strings as the stage strings sometimes have too much reverb or room sound as they were recorded. Strings - its a little confusing and some of the sounds I like take a little tweaking. Percussion! The marimba, and Taiko drums notably, Instructions so it was really confusing and unclear.

It took me almost 4 days to install all 114 gigs. I kind o like Garritan and others alikemostly like the price but if you're investing in a library that will lastĮast west has a nasty install. Hollywood Strings is supposedly the best string sounds you cam buy. If I didnt have EW i wouldnt be so interested in it. Im really attracted to symphobia, but only as an addition. There are a few cons and I will go ver those in a sec. I use EW platinum and am very happy with it.

I know at this point EWQL is quite dated, but I don't see similar "full" orchestral libraries in many other places, plus I'm not sure about how the quality of their new Hollywood line lines up with other more premiere/professional libraries. And though my budget is a bit higher this time around (~1000), I don't want to spend a billion dollars for VSL.Ĭurrently my thinking is to by the Complete Composers Collection 2, with EWQL Gold, Hollywood strings, etc., but I have seen some who have recommended against this. Percussion is essential but I have little desire to use synths or drum kits. Now I am looking to get back into it, but with some better sounds.
